Course Description:
English 8 is a year - long class that is required of all eighth graders. In this English class students will develop their reading and writing skills. Written work will include different types of writing assignments. Students will be assessed on basic skills as designated by District #145 and the State Department of Education.

Class Objectives:
Writing - To gain confidence in writing - to use personal experience as a focus in composition - to review basics of grammar, usage, and mechanics, and apply these to writing - to learn techniques for effective revision and editing - to improve writing using the 6 trait writing model: ideas sentence fluency organization voice word choice conventions
Reading - To read a variety of literary genres - to clarify the techniques used by writers - to help students realize how language can shape their thinking - to foster a questioning attitude - to provide tools for critically approaching a work of literature - to encourage students to read.
